The Nineveh is Christened

As many of those close to us know, we have been living on our sailboat for 4 years. And for 4 years we have left the original name, "Das Boot", on the boat while we wait to get the bottom job done. It has been "Das Boot" since it was created in 1981. We had always planned on changing the name, we just never had the opportunity.

When we left Knoxville in 2006 to travel to Memphis on the Tennessee River, Ohio River and the Mississippi River we thought we would be able to change the name. This was unfortunately not the case. So we had to wait until we left Memphis.

When we planned on leaving Memphis in October of 2008 we had the boat blessed by our priest and close friend. I would like to think that the blessing helped us on our journey down the Mississippi river and will for the rest of our adventures.

Now that we have had the hull redone and the boat blessed, we've removed the old name from the hull and have replaced it with "The Nineveh." To complete the transformation we needed to christen the boat. This consists of pouring champagne down the anchor and into the sea in order to appease the sea gods. Some say there is more to it, we decided to stay with the champagne blessing. Hopefully the champagne will flow from the bayou to the sea in some form or fashion.

Will helps in christening the boat.

Sea gods appeased!
